Exploring the Neem plant as a sustainable bio-pesticide for mosquito control and source of income generator in Africa. Visited the Shivapur farmer’s milk cooperative and the J.P. Nake Rural Institute of Women (Home economics, horticulture, farming demonstration, policy conception, implementation and evaluation. Visited cottage industries for Neem products and other natural resources as potential for income generation. Presenting two research papers on fire (Texas) and cotton pest control (Senegal). Interviews and appearance on The Indian Express (11/28/02); article: “This doctor strives to give Senegal a “bitter cure”.

Invited and hosted the Senegal delegation headed by the Minister of Industry and Handicrafts and the Mayor Pro-Tem of Kaolack, Senegal. Performed key role in on site match-making and networking between African delegates and local American joint-venture seekers. Conducted field and laboratory studies on company’s organic pesticide efficacy on the Red Imported Fire Ant (Solenopsis invicta Buren) and whitefly ( Bemisia spp.). Filed for EPA registration. Apr. 1994 1- Chemonics International Entomologist Consultant. Chemonics International/USAID Guinea-Conakry Natural Resource Management Project. I evaluated, pest status and recommended an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches on termite, stored product insects, pesticide storage management and farming practice. Pesticide efficacy screening tests for country registration. Trained staff and farmers on innovative production techniques through farmer’s forum. Inventoried and described of farmer’s needs, existing empirical farmer’s practices and farmer accepted scientific technology in Senegal and The Gambia as a baseline study for the WARDA countries.
